Konstantinos Vavalas was born in Komotini in 1976. A few years later, he moved to Thessaloniki with his family, the city where the family originally comes from. His journey in music began at the age of 8. For six years, he originally attended recorder, music theory and later classical guitar lessons at the Conservatoire de Thessalonique. At the age of 12 he attended Bassoon lessons at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, with professor Vasilis Zarogas. He continued his studies in Germany, as in 1994 he entered the University of Music in Karlsruhe. He studied in the class of Günter Pfitzenmaier, and majored in Bassoon and Contrabassoon. He graduated with honors in 1999.
In 2000, he returned to Greece where he worked at the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki. He also participated in several Chamber Music Ensembles of the city. Since August 2003, he has been a permanent member of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra. Since spring 2012, he’s also become a founding member of the Chamber Music Orchestra Contra Tempo.
